As the restoration of the gospel unfolded, one of the most significant events in the restoration occurred. The priesthood power was restored to the earth, along with the sealing power. Now the power to seal in heaven what was done on earth gave meaning and significants to all the ordinance of baptism and later temple sealings. This week's lesson focuses on how the sealing of families is like a welding link on a chain. God has the power, through his servants, to bind us together in a bond that cannot be broken by death.

Open the lesson with a song and a prayer.
🎶 O P E N I N G S O N G : "I Love to See the Temple"
➤ P R E P A R A T I O N
You will need a bowl of ice cubes and a towel.
➤ I N T R O D U C T I O N
Spread the towel on the floor or on a table. Place the bowl of ice in the center of the towel and invite everyone to gather around. Invite everyone to take two ice cubes out of the bowl and to squeeze them together as hard as they can for 10 seconds!
After ten seconds, many of the ice cubes should be stuck together! Now ask everyone to try to pull the ice cubes apart to see how strong the bond is.
After you complete the activity, discuss the following questions:
1) Did anyone here have enough power to bond the ice cubes together? (Discuss.)
2) Was it a strong bond? Or could it be broken easily? (It was not a very strong bond, and it could be broken easily.)
3) Do you think the bond you made with the ice cubes will last for a long time? (No.)
4) Do you think Heavenly Father has the power to bind things together? (Yes.)
5) If Heavenly Father wanted to bind something together, how strong do you think he could make that bond? (Discuss.)
6) If Heavenly Father wanted to bind something together, how long do you think that bond would last? (Discuss.)
Explain: In the scriptures, we learn that Heavenly Father has power to bind families together forever! We can go to the temple and our families can be sealed together with the priesthood power.

Say: “Now we are going to watch a video about welding links! Watch closely, and see if you can learn what welding is.”
Discuss the following questions after watching the video:
1) What does “welding” mean? (It’s when you melt two pieces of metal together into one piece.)
2) When chain links are welded together the right way, are they weak or strong? (They are very strong.)
3) What can we do to bind our family together with strong welding links? (We can go to the temple and be sealed together with the priesthood power!)
4) If Heavenly Father seals our family together with his power, is it a weak bond? Or a strong bond? (A strong bond.)
5) How long do you think it can last? (Forever!)

Read the following scripture verses and discuss the questions that follow.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven...
1) God has given His sealing priesthood power to someone. Guess who? (The Apostle Peter.)
2) If something is sealed with the power of God, will it still be sealed in Heaven? (Yes.)
46 And verily, verily, I say unto you, that whatsoever you seal on earth shall be sealed in heaven; and whatsoever you bind on earth, in my name and by my word, saith the Lord, it shall be eternally bound in the heavens;
1) God has given His priesthood power to someone else. Do you know who? (Joseph Smith.)
2) If something is sealed with the power of God, will it still be sealed in Heaven? (Yes.)
1 Behold, I will reveal unto you the Priesthood, by the hand of Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
2 And he shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers.
1) Which prophet had the sealing priesthood power in this verse? (Elijah the prophet.)
2) What can we do if we want our family to be sealed together with God’s priesthood power? (We can go to the temple and be sealed together with the priesthood power!)
➤ A C T I V I T Y
Help the children write the names of family members on the “links” on the activity page. Help them cut out the links and then “weld” them together into a chain with tape or a stapler. Invite the children to color the scene from the video. You can also use this time as an opportunity to discuss God’s sealing power and the importance of sealing our families together with a strong “welding link.”
