Our children are growing up in a very challenging time in history. We understand that these are the last days. There are going to be difficulties in our path. Often our instinct is to run from things that scare us. But, the Lord needs us to be courageous in standing for truth and righteousness.
In this week's lesson bundle, your children can learn to be valiant like the Jaredites and the 2,000 stripling warriors, and overcome their fear with faith in the Lord.

➤ P R E P A R A T I O N
Fill a large bowl or large plastic container with water. Gather eight small objects that float (These objects will represent the Jaredite barges and the water will represent the ocean). Some objects that would work well are: nuts with the shells on, corks or small sticks broken into short pieces.
➤ L E S S O N
Open the lesson with a song and a prayer.
🎶 O P E N I N G S O N G : "Nephi's Courage"
➤ I N T R O D U C T I O N
Place the bowl or large plastic container on the floor (under a towel) and invite the children to gather around the “ocean.” Place the floating objects on the water on one side of the container.
Breifly retell the story of when the Jaredites traveled across the ocean to the promised land inside eight barges. Invite children to provide the "wind" by blowing on the objects so that they will float to the other side of the container. You could also invite them to shake the sides of the container gently to make some waves!
After you complete this activity, invite children to sit back down in their seats. Invite the children to form a “V” shape with their hands. Then, invite them to repeat the word “VALIANT” together with you.
Explain: Being valiant means to have courage when we have to face challenges or when we have to face something that is dangerous.
Discuss the following questions:
1) When the Jaredites were commanded to cross the ocean inside the barges, was there any danger? (Yes.)
2) What was the danger? What could have happened? (Discuss.)
3) Were there any problems to solve? (Yes. They needed to have air and they needed light.)
4) Do you think they could have felt scared when the waves were crashing on them? (Discuss.)
5) Did the Jaredites run away from these things? Or were they valiant? (They were valiant!)

Say: “Now we are going to watch a video about a valiant fox! There is a fire in the forest and a squirrel is trapped! Let’s watch and see which fox is the valiant fox!”

Discuss the following questions after watching the video:
1) Which fox was the valiant fox? (The fourth one.)
2) Did the fox have to face any danger? (Yes!)
3) What were the dangers that the fox had to face? (The bridge, the ditch, and the fire.)
4) Did the fox give up and run away, or was the fox valiant? (The fox was valiant.)
5) Who else was valiant in this video? (The 2000 stripling warriors.)
6) Did those stripling warriors ever fight in a battle before? (No.)
7) Did the stripling warriors give up and run away, or were they valiant? (They were valiant!)

Ask the children: Do you want to know what happened when the 2000 stripling warriors went to battle?
54 And now it came to pass that we, the people of Nephi, the people of Antipus, and I with my two thousand, did surround the Lamanites, and did slay them; yea, insomuch that they were compelled to deliver up their weapons of war and also themselves as prisoners of war.
1) Who won the battle - the Lamanites, or the Nephites? (The Nephites won and they were able to stop the Lamanites.)
25 And it came to pass that there were two hundred, out of my two thousand and sixty, who had fainted because of the loss of blood; nevertheless, according to the goodness of God, and to our great astonishment, and also the joy of our whole army, there was not one soul of them who did perish; yea, and neither was there one soul among them who had not received many wounds.
1) Did any of them die in the battle? (No, none of them died!)
20 And as the remainder of our army were about to give way before the Lamanites, behold, those two thousand and sixty were firm and undaunted.
27 Now this was the faith of these of whom I have spoken; they are young, and their minds are firm, and they do put their trust in God continually.
1) Were these 2000 stripling warriors valiant? (Yes.)
2) Can you think of times when Jesus Christ was valiant in keeping Heavenly Father’s commandments? (Discuss.)
3) Can you think of times when you might need to be valiant? (Discuss.)
