Love One Another: Nov 27th - Dec 3rd

Meet the "Judge Bugs!" In this week's lesson, these little bugs will show your children why it isn't wise to judgmental of one another!

It can be very hurtful to be the recipient of unfair judgment, and we must be very careful not to hurt others in the same manner. We can't see into another person's heart, and we don't see everything that Heavenly Father can see. Therefore it is best to spend more time looking to the Lord as we decide how we will treat one another (and ourselves), and He commanded us to love one another!

Cut out a paper heart using construction paper or any other type of paper. Use the full sheet of paper so that the heart is as large as possible.

Hold up the paper heart. Ask children to think of things that might be hurtful or unkind to say to someone else, or to think of hurtful or unkind things that someone has said to them.

Each time a child gives a response, crush the paper in your hands a little bit to show how unkind words can hurt our hearts. Continue until the heart is completely crushed into a ball.

Now ask children to think of kind and loving things that they could say to someone else, or kind and loving things that others have said to them. Each time a child gives a response, unfold the heart a little bit. Continue until the heart is unfolded completely.

Now hold up the heart to show that even though the heart is unfolded, the damage remains.

Explain: Heavenly Father loves each one of us very much, and that’s why Heavenly Father cares very much about how we treat one another. One of the most important commandments that Heavenly Father has given us, is to love one another. If we don’t keep this commandment, it can be hurtful to ourselves and to others.

🎥 V I D E O : "Judge Bugs"

Say: “We are going to watch a video about some bugs who said hurtful things to another bug. See if you can tell why the bugs thought it was okay to say those things.”

Discuss the following questions after watching the video:

  1. What did the bugs say to the grasshopper that was hurtful? (They told the grasshopper that he wasn’t green, and they laughed at him.)

  2. Why did the judge bugs think it was okay to do this? (They thought they knew better than the grasshopper. They weren’t being thoughtful.)

  3. Could the judge bugs see clearly? Or was something wrong? (They were wearing colored glasses so they couldn’t see the real colors.)

  4. Do we see clearly? Or do we have some glasses on too? (We have glasses on too. We don’t know everything, and we don’t see clearly. We also can’t see inside someone else’s heart. That’s why we need to rely on Heavenly Father.)

  5. Can you think of some loving things the judge bugs could say to the grasshopper instead of hurtful things? (Discuss some of the children’s ideas.)

➤ S C R I P T U R E

Read the verses below and discuss the questions that follow.

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

  1. These verses teach us that someone loves us very much! Who is it? (God loves us very much!)

  2. When God loves us, it’s also an example. Because God all of us, what does He ask us to do? (Love one another!)

  1. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also

  2. Does God teach us to have hate in our hearts? (No, He does not teach us to hate one another.)

  3. What is the commandment that God gives us in these verses? (He commands us to love God, and to love one another.)

  4. Can you think of any stories from the scriptures where Jesus showed love to others? (Help the children recall some stories from the scriptures that show Jesus’ love and compassion for others.)

Pass out the activity pages. Invite children to color the scenes from the video and to color and cut

out the characters! Remind children that we don’t see everything that Heavenly Father can see. We

must rely on Him to see clearly. Also remind children that God loves each one of us, and He has

commanded us to love one another.
