If Ye Are Not One, Ye Are Not Mine (Come Follow Me Lesson for Kids: Apr 21-27)

The Lord has commanded us to be one, even as He and the Father are one. We need each other. Human interaction is essential for our brain development, health, and well-being. We thrive through love and connection to each other.

We are also flawed and fallen, so we will experience conflict, hurt feelings, and differing points of view. The Lord knows this, yet his second great commandment is to love our neighbors as ourselves!

This week's lesson can help children understand that we can be one in purpose, heart, and mind, even with differences.

You will need a flashlight that can be taken apart into several pieces. Take the flashlight apart before the lesson.

➤ I N T R O D U C T I O N

Place all of the individual pieces of the flashlight on a flat surface where everyone can see them.

One by one, ask the children to identify each piece and explain what it is for/what it does.

Example:

The light bulb makes the light.

The battery supplies the power.

The case holds the pieces together.

Once you have talked about each individual part, discuss the following questions:

1) Do you think these pieces can work on their own? Or do you think they need each other? (They need each other.)

2) What would happen if the battery tried to be a flashlight all by itself? (It wouldn’t be able to make any light.)

3) What would happen if the light bulb tried to shine all by itself? (It wouldn’t work.)

4) Do you think He wants us to be by ourselves? Or do you think He wants us to be together with Him and with our brothers and sisters? (Discuss.)
