Joseph had everything going for him. He was the favorite of his Dad, he got the coolest coat and then everything fell to pieces. We all know the story. His brothers were jealous and sold him into slavery. But Jospeh rose up from servitude to become a leader. Then once again, Joseph had opposition. He was accused of adultery and was imprisoned. And he rose again out of prison to be a leader, second only to Pharaoh.
Joseph is a powerful example of not letting the adversities of life keep us down. The Lord continued to bless Joseph, as he continued to have faith, to believe, and to act. What can we learn from Joseph in our lives? How can we respond to the trials of our mortal existence? Grab this week's lesson and guide your family through these important discussions.

You will need a large bowl filled halfway with water, lots of dry beans (any type), and a ping pong ball. If you don’t have a ping pong ball, you can use any other small object that floats.
➤ I N T R O D U C T I O N
Place the ping pong ball in the water, and invite the children to drop beans on the ball to try to make it sink! They can throw the beans at the ball one at a time or all at once! Just make sure they know they are not allowed to touch the ball. After they have used up all of the beans, have them return to their seats and discuss the following questions:
1) What happened when you tried to make the ball sink? (It kept floating back up!)
2) Why did the ball keep floating back up? (Because it is filled with air, and the air wants to go up out of the water!)
Explain: This ball represents each one of us! And the beans are kind of like trials! This life is a test to see if we are willing to obey Heavenly Father, even when things aren’t going so well! If we love God and we ask Him to help us, then our trials won’t sink us! And we can have the faith to obey God and keep doing the right things no matter what!
🎥 V I D E O : "Joseph in Egypt | Animated Scripture Lesson for Kids"
Say: “Now we are going to watch a video about a righteous man named Joseph who lived in Egypt! Sometimes things were going well for Joseph, but sometimes things were not going well for Joseph! Let’s see what he does when things are not going well!”
Discuss the following questions after watching the video:
1) When Heavenly Father tests us, what does He want to see? (He wants to see if we will trust Him and obey Him always, no matter what happens!)
2) What did Joseph do when things were going well for him? (He kept obeying God, and he kept doing the right things!)
3)What did Joseph do when things were not going well for him? (He kept obeying God, and he kept doing the right things!)
➤ S C R I P T U R E
Read the scriptures below and discuss the questions that follow.
And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
1) How did Joseph have so much strength in his trials? (The Lord helped him!)
2) Do you think the Lord will help us be strong in our trials too if we have faith in Him? (Yes.)
And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.
1) How can we have strength in our trials? (By building on the rock of Jesus Christ.)
2) What are some things we can do to build on the rock of Jesus Christ? (Discuss.)
