That You May Come Off Conqueror (Come Follow Me: Feb 10-Feb 16)

latterdaykids

Little children are pure and innocent, but they come into a fallen world where they will face temptation throughout their mortal journey. And while temptation can be difficult, even the Savior Jesus Christ understood temptation and He can help us and our children know how to escape temptation and "conquer Satan," (D&C 10:5).

We hope this week's lesson will help your children understand temptation, and how prayer can help us to resist Satan's traps.

You will need a large bowl or a small cardboard box, a small stick, a string, and a piece of cheese (or any

other treat a mouse would like!). Set up a “mouse trap” before the lesson. Tie the string to the stick.

Turn the bowl (or box) upside down and use the stick to prop up one side of the bowl. Place the cheese

under the bowl.

Invite the children to inspect the “mouse trap.” Tell them to look for the “bait” and to think about how

it works. After they have had a chance to explore the trap, explain the following:

Heavenly Father wants us to be happy, but Satan wants to destroy our happiness and ruin Heavenly Father's plan. Satan uses temptations to try to do this.

A temptation is when we see something we want, but we know it is not good for us. It’s kind of like a

trap! All of us have temptations, and it’s not bad to have a temptation. Even Jesus Christ was tempted!

The most important thing is what we do when we face a temptation!

1) Do you think a mouse will be tempted by this cheese? (Yes.)

2) What will happen if the mouse resists the temptation and walks away? (The mouse will be safe from the trap.)

3) What will happen if the mouse does not resist the temptation and the mouse tries to get the cheese? (The mouse will be caught in the trap.)

Now pull the string to demonstrate how the trap works.
